No two days are the same on this day trip to the Blue Mountains! Our experienced tour guides personalise every day depending on the weather, traffic, and the fitness level of the group. The experience usually kicks off with the chance to get up close with Australian native animals like Koalas and Kangaroos at Featherdale Wildlife Park. Lunch time is spent exploring a relaxing blue mountain village. Travellers will see some waterfalls and spectacular lookouts, and immerse themselves in at least one guided bushwalk during the day. Echo Point is a huge highlight and a great place to see the famous Three Sisters.
The following gives an idea of a typical Blue Mountains day trip itinerary but remember that the order and timing will rarely be exactly the same!
Morning: Departure and Wildlife Adventure
7:00 AM – Pickup and Departure from Sydney City: Passengers are collected from convenient locations throughout the city from Central Station to Circular Quay between 7 and 7:45am. This is the beginning of your day trip to the Blue Mountains as you leave the bustling Sydney Central Business District and head towards the tranquil beauty of the Blue Mountains.
8:45 AM – Featherdale Wildlife Park: Arrive at Featherdale Wildlife Park before the crowds, a fantastic first stop where you can get up close with some of Australia’s unique wildlife. From kangaroos to koalas, this park offers a wonderful introduction to the country’s fauna.
Scenic Drive and Mountain Arrival
10:00 AM – Scenic Drive into the mountains: The drive into the Blue Mountains is scenic and peaceful, offering a glimpse of the natural beauty that lies ahead.
11:00 AM – Guided walk in the Blue Mountains: Now your blue mountain tour expedition really starts to ramp up with our first stop usually at Wentworth Falls. This is a stunning location where we walk down over one hundred steps from the cliff tops into the valley to be immersed in the rain forest with spectacular waterfall views and overhanging caves along the paths. On occasions some parts of the Blue Mountains National Park are closed and other similar locations may be visited instead. Comfortable closed in shoes are really important to safely explore on some of the uneven tracks.
Unfortunately, we cannot control the weather! On occasions rain and heavy fog may reduce the opportunities to see all of the amazing sights in the Blue Mountains. Your tour guide will adapt the day to make the most of the viewing opportunities, which may involve shorter walks or visiting different locations. They will do their best to help you have an enjoyable day exploring even if the weather does not cooperate.
Lunch in a Mountain Village
12:30 PM – Lunch in Leura, Katoomba, or Blackheath: Take a break for lunch in one of these picturesque small villages. Passengers have up to an hour to explore and find their own lunch, with suggestions provided by your tour guide. Whether you’re looking for a quaint cafe or a quick bite, these towns offer a variety of options to suit all tastes and dietary requirements, as well the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the relaxed mountain village.
Afternoon: Three Sisters and More Sightseeing Walks
1:30 PM – Echo Point and the Three Sisters: No Blue Mountains trip is complete without seeing this iconic rock formation, and after lunch, we visit Echo Point for some of the best views available and those mandatory selfies. Some other nearby lookouts also offer spectacular views of these famous landmarks.
2:00 PM – Nature and sightseeing walks: Spend the remainder of the afternoon on your Blue Mountains trip visiting other breathtaking lookouts, stunning waterfalls, and participating in great short guided walks through the Blue Mountains National Park. Your tour guide will determine the best options to explore the area around Blackheath and Govett’s leap, Katoomba or Gordon Falls, Lincoln’s Rock or some other incredible locations that you have probably never heard of!
Outside of the busier holiday periods of the year, guides may also suggest optional activities like a visit to Scenic World for the Scenic Railway and Cableway rides, however this is not a committed part of the regular tour and will not be available on all tours.
The itinerary and locations visited are very flexible to accommodate the group’s preferences, fitness levels, weather, and the time available. Keep your camera ready; you will see some spectacular sights and might spot a kangaroo or other wildlife along the way.
Return to Sydney
3:30 PM – Depart the Mountains: Begin the return journey back to Sydney from the Blue Mountains. Reflect on the day’s adventures and the stunning landscapes you’ve experienced.
5:30-6:30 PM – Arrival back in the centre of Sydney: Arrive back in Sydney, feeling refreshed and inspired by your Blue Mountains day trip from Sydney.
